I'm pretty anti pop culture too, "too mainstream" is how I grimace and say it, not at all meaning to sound condescending. Also, the "fondness for unpretty images done well." Me too, me too! And about taking pictures of people, I'm iffy too, but have learned to be bolder now. That picture of the old gardener on my blog was taken after to much nervous deliberation, you'd think I was debating going to war versus shooting myself in the head.
